Shiloh Walker's ~ THE MISSING

4.5 stars ~ An all-engrossing story filled with passion, suspense and mixed with evil; could not put this book down!

Yay! Another new Shiloh Walker book arrived at my door and I immediately sat down to read it... ASAP.
The Missing is one of those stories that won't let you go and while a respectable 312 pages, I devoured it. But then I tend to do that with any of Ms. Walker's books.
She is a phenomenal story-teller with a flair for description that takes you right into the action. And the action is stunning!
Different from her Hunters books, yet still dealing with strong female and male characters learning to survive ~ and thrive ~ despite having to deal with pasts that have scarred and a present that is out of control.

As with her other stories ~ long or short; paranormal or contemporary ~ there is a very strong emotional component that does more than simply tug on your heartstrings ~ it's a full-out capture!
Then there is the romance: Whew! We're talking extremely sexy, HOT and, at the same time, very touching.
The way I see it, Shiloh Walker writes with magic and we benefit each and every time.

The story:

LOVE LOST
As a teenager, Taige Branch was able to do things with her psychic gift that others couldn't understand ~ except for Cullen Morgan, the boy who stole her heart. He did his best to accept her abilities, until his mother was brutally murdered ~ and he couldn't forgive Taige for not preventing her death.

PASSION FOUND
Now a widowed father, Cullen Morgan has never forgotten Taige. But what brings her back into his life is another tragic event. His beloved little girl has been kidnapped, and Taige is his only hope of finding her.

A LOVE THAT NEVER DIED
Working together against the clock, Cullen and Taige can't help but wonder whether ~ if they find his daughter in time ~ it isn't too late for the overpowering love that still burns between them...

I don't very often pre-order books, but there are authors who top my favourites and auto-buy lists for whom I'll do this: Case in point is Shiloh Walker's THE MISSING.
If we, Shiloh Walker's fans, are lucky this could just be the beginning of another of her series.

I became a fan of Shi's stories back in January of 2007 when I found her book Hunting the Hunted. It had elements with which I was intrigued, I'd seen her name on J.R. Ward's message board and I had a gift card.... Forgone conclusion? Maybe.
But the story really made an impact on me. I was immediately more than a little interested in Ms. Walker's Hunters, even with this first rather indirect introduction to this world.
So without much prompting I immediately began looking around for more of her work. This eventually segued into looking for her ebooks ~ of which I have a LOT ~ and then I began getting the print versions of these same ebooks. Addicted much? *grin*

If you've not read anything by Shiloh Walker, I highly recommend that you find yourself any of her books, sit down for a nice quiet read, and find just why Ms. Walker is one of my favourites!

  1. I love Shiloh Walkers "Hunter" series too. I'll agree with you that she really writes passionate characters with a strong honorable streak. And she really knows how to tell a story.

I see that her last few books have been paranormal but not of the vampire category. I like the concept of The Missing and her latest novella, Talking to the Dead was nicely reviewed by Smart Bitches even though they gave it a C-. I definitely want to read that one, The Missing and Through the Veil, even though both both the last two got mixed reviews.

My main problem with Shiloh's books are sometimes I don't like the sex. In one contemp, she had the two characters dancing around each other and it was built up nicely. I couldn't wait for them to get it on. But with nary a discussion about sexual likes and dislikes before hand, on their first time, not even in bed, but up against the wall, he shoves it up her butt. What?! LOL

I get butt sex, I really do. And since it was a contemp, it's more real to me than a paranormal. So I'm a bit more judgmental. If some guy I really don't know that well shoves it up my butt on the first time without too much preamble then, it's gonna push my buttons. I don't find that very romantic for the first time unless they've discussed their sexual preferences way before hand and know what to expect. So I do get turned off by that.

Otherwise, I totally love Shiloh's books. Love them!

  2. Hey Leah!

I was *trying* to do a more in-depth review but, like the book reports that I used to have to write in school, it was becoming far too detailed. *sigh*
LOL... I wasn't even through the first two chapters and I had over half-a-page written down. There's that verbal diarrhea problem my dad used to laugh about!

See that's what I mean about your reviews. You go deeper and give a lot more substance to the review as well as adding an excellent overview of the story...
without rambling on all over the place.

  3. Kathy, you crack me up. You use my "shoving it up the butt" comment to tell me how my reviews are "in depth" LOL

You must be reading others' reviews because I have serious rambling issues, which I always try to curb, but never quite can.*sigh*

You on the other hand, write just what I the reader need to know. And so far, I've really enjoyed your full and semi-full reviews. They are very concise and say how you felt about the book and why. Perfect!

  4. LOL... Uh yeah... okay I can see where you'd get that... um... impression? LOL

Okay, I wasn't really paying attention to what I was saying... but that's pretty much par for the course with me. *blush*

And thank you! I'm finding it fun to write ~ 'cause this is about the extent of my writing ability.

My youngest daughter, OTOH, is very talented when it comes to writing stories. I know she's quite serious about it and anytime that she lets me read any of her work I'm awed and amazed... as is my oldest daughter.
Wouldn't be at all surprised to someday see her name in print... like on the front cover of a book!

Oh that would be so cool if she got published.
