Yeah winter's coming... short days and long nights

So I'm sitting here, the window to the side and, at 3:52 pm on Tuesday November 4, the sun is quickly approaching the horizon. Yesterday by 4:30 it was dusk... dark dusk, but still dusk.
And we're not going to be experiencing the shortest day / longest night for over a month-and-a-half yet.... that's just so not right!

At the peak of summer hours, it's light here 'til nearly 11 pm... the light has just started to fade. Now I'm not fond of the heat in the summer, but I sure do like the extended day-time! Or rather the daylight ~ daylight savings time is a major PITA and I wish that we could be like Saskatchewan; they're the only civilized province / territory in Canada 'cause they don't make us all change our clocks forwards and backwards like little lemmings. GAH!!
Okay enough of my DST rant... but I really, really do wish that it was a thing of the past. *sigh*

I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much either about the shorter days... at least *knock on wood* we've not got any snow yet. Bonus!!

  1. Heh-- I used to not care about early darkness. But something interesting happened when I was taking care of this one woman for 7 years. I had to tube feed her and her last feeding was at 10PM. Then I could have my time and go to bed.

During the summer the nights used to go by so quickly and it would be 10 PM before I knew it. But during the winter, when it was dark at 4:30, the night's just dragged on and on. LOL

In the last years, DH and I go to bed at 8:30 PM because we are up at 4 AM, so I like it when it's dark early because it's easier to go to bed early.

But I hate switching in general. PITA

  2. Boy, 8:30... if I had my way I'd be in bed by 9:30... but the rest of my family are pretty much nightowls.
When I'm babysitting the next day, yeah I really try to get to bed at least before 10.

But boy, the older that I get, the more that I HATE changing the times... that "spring forward" stuff is getting worse every year.

  3. Hi,

I'm not much of a night driver, my vision just isn't what it used to be, so I don't like to get out much at night. Yes...I'm a candy ass.

The early darkness does interfere with my readiness to do much in the early evening. Many times I have the lights on driving home from work at five o'clock. My office has no windows to the outside and I miss sunshine when I get done.

    I can sleep early though.

So Leah, what are you doing getting up at four in the am. I get up most mornings at five and I'm a big whiner about that!
