Really interesting list - Eric Arvin's blog

I wrote a review for one of Eric Arvin's books - Simple Men ~ Buy Here ~ for Dark Diva Reviews  and he was kind enough to leave a nice comment... I love author comments! *grin*
Aaaaanyway... when I went to his blog - Daventry Blue - there's a post that not only surprised me, but really had me shaking my head.  The post is 100 Bad Books and when I perused the list - I've read and have 11 of the books... but I think I'm going to have to do some more reading - I was wondering just where these people get their lame-ass ideas from.  I mean, really!

So check out the list and see how ridiculous you find some, if not all, of them.  People - especially North Americans (and I include Canada along with the US) - are just way too puritanical for my tastes.
And here I could go on a rant about the weird attitudes that changed a children's Japanese anime program when translated to English, including cutting episodes, changing characters' gender and changing the relationship between two women.... *GAH*
I'm speaking of Sailormoon / Sailor Moon... but that's a rant for a different time and one that I've indulged in before, although not here.

  1. I've read about 28 of the items (since some of them, like Harry Potter and His Dark Material, are multiple books). As I commented over at Eric's blog, the list seems heavy on books that encourage critical thinking and challenge religious dogma. Go figure. I also highly recommend downloading the song "Dirty Books" by Local Anxiety - it was the anthem for Freedom To Read Week in 1994) and is totally worth the $0.99. :)

  2. Thanks for the song recommendation Chris... Music is close behind books in my favourites. :-D

  3. Mine, too. I love to make mix cds. In fact, I'm listening to an early draft of my Books & Reading mix right now...

  4. Okay I'm listening to Dirty Books and just shaking my head. I've had my own run-in with Canada Customs... but these are frickin' ridiculous!

  9. LOL! Book banning's one of my hot topics, too, but I think I've had a bit more time listening to the song, so I've gotten over the head 'splosion part!
